Homework Assistance Program (HAP)

After-school academic support for grades 2-8, Monday-Friday, plus Friday enrichment activities. Up to 60 families served each year.

Summer Enrichment Program (SEP)

Summer-long reinforcement in math, reading, and writing through games and arts, serving up to 60 families each year. Includes a STEM extension — grades 2-4 and grades 5-8 tracks — delivered by Cradle of Aviation in partnership with the Port Authority of NY & NJ, Delta Air Lines, and LaGuardia Gateway Partners.

Both HAP and SEP are led by licensed DOE teacher Ms. Erikka Sharpe.

Sankofa Series: Legacy Forward

Launched in 2026, this program provides participants with the fundamentals of [PLACEHOLDER — program details TBD, confirm with client before publishing]. The inaugural cohort included 13 paid participants.

Black Heritage Reference Center

Home to New York City’s most extensive circulating Black Heritage collection, the BHRC preserves and celebrates Black history and culture through books, film, periodicals, and rare archival materials — serving all of Queens County since 1969. While the BHRC’s name has existed since day one, it was formally designated to serve Queens County in 1979/1980, seemingly by the State Board of Education.

Cultural Arts Center

The Cultural Arts Center began as a space to celebrate African American culture & the broader African diaspora, and has grown over the years into a welcoming home for many communities — including our Hispanic neighbors — through literary readings, music, dance, and educational workshops. Whether you’d like to propose a program or book the space for an event, we’d love to hear from you.

Art Gallery

Langston Hughes Library showcases hundreds of art pieces throughout the building, alongside a dedicated gallery space where local artists can host exhibitions and receptions.
