SUMMARY:Lei Day at QPL - Hawaiian Lei Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A lei is “a hug that express love\, affection\, and acknowledgment. Come Celebrate AANHPI Month & create your own Lei!\n\n\nLei are created to honor people\, places\, and special moments.  Lei-making is a human artform and Native Hawaiian cultural practice that reflects deep indigenous respect for the land.  Through working with flowers and foliage\, we express love\, affection\, and acknowledgment; a lei is “a hug that lasts longer.” \n \nTaught by Uakea Jose and assisted by Taylor Kainoa Yasui\, participants will learn lei kui (sewing) and lei hilo (twisting) styles of lei-making to create a one-of-a-kind lei āʻī to be worn on the shoulders.  This 2-hour workshop will also share the history of lei-making and an introduction to the process as it relates to us as human beings.  This hands-on experience will guide participants through foundational techniques while encouraging creativity and personal expression. All levels welcome\, no prior experience necessary. Ages 5+. Children ages 5–10 will need adult assistance.
